The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was originally built by the mother of Emperor Constantine in 330 A.D. According to the history of the Church, this is the location of the two holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, at a place known as Calvary or Golgotha, and Jesus's empty tomb, where he is said to have been buried and resurrected.
The church has long been a major pilgrimage center for Christians all around the world.
