Description
The Montpellier Aqueduct, aka, Les Arceaux, in Montpellier, France, was built to bring water about 14 km (approx. 8.6 miles), to the city from the Saint Clement spring.
The aqueduct was built and inaugurated in 1765 and is one of the best-known landmarks in Montpellier.
The name, “Les Arceaux” (the arches) comes from the double layer of arches, which stretch over 800 meters (approx. ½ mile) along the aqueduct.
Every Sunday is a fun day around the aqueduct since they have a flea market and a farm market, which is always crowded.
